    So you want an answer?

I’ve been asked legit, hundreds of times why I left Show Me the Skyline, and if somehow you managed to miss one of my answers, you can read below for a clear cut answer(s) why.

Disclaimer: I’m not going on tour with the Jonas Brothers, I’m not recording bass for John Mayer, and I’m not working for google. I can’t imagine how anyone could believe those things but nevertheless, I guess some did?

I spent about a year playing in Show Me the Skyline, I watched pretty much everything happen after the first album. I played virtually every show with the exception of 3(before i joined) and I’d like to think I’m able to capture the essence of the band by compiling what I’ve seen and heard over the past 12 months. I want to start by saying my decision had nothing to do with any personal issues with anyone in the band, Larzz was my best friend up until the day I quit and Theo and Morgan are two of the raddest, most talented guys I’ve had the fortune of playing with. I say that Larzz WAS my best friend up until that point because him and I don’t talk anymore, which is something that is entirely between us, I have no animosity towards him, and I would assume the same, we are just traveling different paths now.

Now that that is out of the way, I left the band for a number of reasons, most of which I’ll try to elaborate on.

As you may or may not know, Larzz has written all the music SMTS has released up to this point and he has been extremely successful as his talent certainly shines through in his music. However, this closes the door for someone like myself to write alongside him. This isn’t to say Larzz shut down the idea of me writing new material, but more so it wasn’t practical as Show Me the Skyline is focused on one person, and for a legit reason. As a result of this focus, I did not forsee myself having an opportunity to write and record my own basslines in the future, something I very much so aspire to do in my future musical endeavors as writing music is my favorite part of this “music spectrum.”

The Best Week Ever approached me a few months ago about potentially writing bass for them, something I made aware to Larzz and the other members of SMTS. In early february I was told that due to some management situations, in order to be a member of The Best Week Ever, I would have to make it a full time commitment. This was sort of the driving force for me, knowing I had to make a decision sooner than later.

Contracts are a big deal in the industry and getting “signed” to a record label are what most bands aspire to do. Something I did not understand which was explained to me by Larzz was a general idea of how contracts work in certain band settings. To make a long story short, in the case of a band like Show Me the Skyline, the most practical situation (if a contract were to be proposed) would involve only Larzz signing the contract. The reason for this is, not only did larzz write the music and all that stuff, but SMTS does not function without Larzz, someone like myself is replaceable. For me, that isn’t a practical way to move forward in my life as I need some sort of security if I’m going to drop out of school and all that nonsense. Thus, being in a band such as The Best Week Ever is more practical as every member of the band has equal contributions and equal rights to every bit of content that is released.

I’ve got to admit, I grew sick and tired of playing the SMTS material. Point blank, playing I Can’t Explain it hundreds of times gets to be a drag and I lost interest. SMTS is not a band that is actively writing new material so things got old pretty quickly. Also, as a bassplayer my role in a pop rock band is that of simplicity which is very much so demonstrated through the majority of the pop rock music that we hear today, however, I have a style that I like to illustrate through the music I play that I intend to incorporate into my future musical projects which I wasn’t able to showcase in SMTS. In summary, I wanted to do my own thing musically.

Theres a few more reasons, I wanted to focus on school, I was going broke because I was always at band practice and didn’t work enough, I wanted to hang out with friends again, actually go on a date, and whatever else.

So yea, judge me, say it was a stupid move or whatever you so wish to do but I’m actually extremely ecstatic at my choice, a lot of good things have come out of it so far and I definitely can’t complain. I’m much happier now and I feel like I’m able to live a bit more.

Word, theres your answer, feel free to ask any questions on here as I’ll try to clarify anything I’ve said.

I'm dan, I play bass guitar and enjoy a game called baseball. I'm defined through my poetry, which I've become less open about. Despite what you may have heard, I have a big heart.

I firmly believe for anyone to make another happy, one must be happy with oneself. With that said, I'm seeking satisfaction in myself.
